Mindful Photography Workshop

June 28, 2024, 6PM EST

I am delighted to announce that I will be teaching An Introduction to Mindful Photography workshop at Lula Lake on June 28, 2024! I have been writing a very small course based on my experiences navigating work-related anxiety through mindful (aka meditative) photography, and I look forward to sharing a few tools I’ve built into my practice over time. This is now a fundamental part of my creative process and, more importantly, has improved my mental well-being. The course is designed to help the photographer of any skill level get started on their own journey of finding emotional balance while immersed nature.

All camera types are welcome, from mobile devices to film to DSLR / mirrorless. Please bring a camera you’re already comfortable using so we can limit as many technical barriers as possible.

Registration through the kind folks at The Chattery & more details will follow soon.

Environmental statement

The most crucial component of being an ethical nature photographer, or any responsible visitor to a natural area, is to be a good steward of the environment. While I’m not perfect in this department I do my best to continue learning how to do things better when I hike or camp, and to put that knowledge into practice. I don’t see how I could ever photograph nature and disrespect it at the same time.

I’m grateful for the efforts of Nature First: The Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography. As a proud member, I’m dedicated to following principles:

  • Prioritize the well-being of nature over photography.

  • Educate yourself about the places you photograph.

  • Reflect on the possible impact of your actions.

  • Use discretion if sharing locations.

  • Know and follow rules and regulations.

  • Always follow Leave No Trace principles and strive to leave places better than you found them.

  • Actively promote and educate others about these principles
