Field Notes, Vol. 18
Remembering last autumn’s cool air and gentle light, here in late spring, as temperatures are expected to reach into the nineties next week. It occurs to me again just how important our local creeks, lakes and rivers can be for motivation as the heat and humidity build. I sometimes wonder if others appreciate that experience of contrast between hot and cool when they’re out with their cameras or without, when the mental and emotional windows for creative expression seem to shorten but never fully vanish. For me it’s a balance of extremes - and coping - that I’m sure plays a role in how I work and get along with nature. Changing seasons reliably lead me toward a different kind of appreciation. “Type B” fulfillment, or something akin.
